February Special Needs Families Support (SNFS) Network

SNFS is a group to support families who have a child, or children, with special needs. This group is not exclusive towards one diagnosis. These meetings are an open forum for discussion and casual, come and go as your schedule permits.

Join us for an open forum this month - we will be discussing the joys and concerns of raising a child with autism. Please bring any specific topics you'd like to discuss.
Following the meeting, those who are interested are invited to go to Applebee's for a late night happy hour.

Bring the whole family out for a family fun night pizza party! We will use group funds to provide the food and beverages and will have crafts and activities for the kids. We will be meeting in the basement of the Handke Family Center in the former cafeteria, so there will be lots of room for the kids to play and plenty of table space for us to utilize for our meal and activities. Please bring your own high chairs/booster seats if needed and any alternate meals if desired.

“Nurtured Heart Approach to dealing with difficult behaviors”
Presenter: Marc Markwll, PhD at St. Cloud State University

The Nurtured Heart Approach is to help build inner wealth in children by giving them abundant evidence that they are valuable, good, competent, and able to deal with and succeed in life. The Nurtured Heart Approach is about adults collapsing negative energy and giving children the positive energy they need. The approach is about creating experiences for children that bring out their positive selves.

Presentations are from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. You are invited to stay until 8:30pm to continue the conversation, seek support, and to share resources. Child care is provided free of charge. Child care will close promptly at 8:30pm.

Developing Social and Behavioral Competencies

Joel Christian, ISD728’s Behavioral Analyst, will discuss developing acceptable and appropriate social behaviors in our students, and how to respond to behaviors that are unexpected or unacceptable. This presentation will discuss strategies appropriate across all ages of students, from pre-k to secondary level.
